About
This recognition for NBTS Sri Lanka, is a result of the strong successful collaborative work with WHO carried out over many years. Declaration of self-sufficiency of blood supply with 100% voluntary, non-remunerated blood donations and hosting of World Blood Donor Day 2014 global event in Sri Lanka with great success was the landmark of this process.

Terms of Reference (TOR)
NBTS has agreed upon three terms of references with WHO for further collaborating activities. This includes the following;
- At the request of WHO, assist WHO in providing member states support in the adaptation of global blood policy guidance documents in line with strategic directions of the WHO global action framework to advance universal access to quality and safe blood and blood components
- At the request of WHO, support WHO’s technical activities towards building capacity aimed at fortifying the strategic directions slated in the WHO global action framework to advance universal access to quality and safe blood and blood components
- At the request of WHO, contribute to WHO’s work towards the development of promotional and capacity building materials in the field of blood transfusion, primarily related to voluntary non- remunerated donations and rational use of blood and blood products
